BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Iraq uranium claim sows confusion

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Iraq uranium claim sows confusion: "The prime minister's office said the extra intelligence had come from a foreign service and could not be disclosed. "

How fucking convenient.

BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | CIA 'cleared' Iraq uranium claim

So is it not share and share alike???: "But a spokesman for UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Friday that the British intelligence services stood by the uranium claim, and that Britain had separate information from that of the US. "

BBC NEWS | Politics | Blair under pressure on terror suspects

What about the other 678?????: "Tony Blair is coming under pressure to raise directly with President George Bush the case of two British terrorist suspects being held by the Americans in Guantanamo Bay. "

Compassion? My arse...

President Bush is in Africa handing out 15 billion to combat AIDS. Except he hasn't got 15 billion, he's got 2 billion for this year with the rest spread out over 4 years and 14 countries.
Still, 2 billion is a lot of money, right? Wrong. In the great scheme of things it is nothing.

From [TFT]:
$2 billion might sound like an awful lot of money - but to put it in perspective, the *monthly* cost of maintaining US forces in Iraq is $3.9 billion (nearly twice what was expected). *$3.9 billion every fucking month.* And these troops are to remain for the foreseeable future. (Possibly as long as four years, Tommy Franks reckoned yesterday).

And on Tuesday, the House of Representatives voted on a new defence spending bill. Guess how much for. A single year. The cost of arming America for 12 months. That's right: $368.7 billion. The bill was approved 399 votes to 19.

$368.7 billion on the military.

$2 billion to fight AIDS in 14 nations.

Oh Mr President, we never knew you cared that much.

What a dick.

BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | US may be in Iraq 'for years'

Belfast with sand, part 2: BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | US may be in Iraq 'for years': "The man who led the coalition war in Iraq has said US forces may have to remain in the country for another two to four years.
General Tommy Franks told Congress in Washington that the administration would probably not be in a position to reduce its troop strength from the present level of about 150,000 for some time.
And he warned that there would be no quick end to the kind of low-intensity fighting that has claimed 65 US lives since the end of major combat. "

New 'natural' sunscreen, additive free...

ACCORDING to the leaflet that accompanies Clinique's Super City Block oil-free daily face protector, it is a "non-chemical sunscreen, so that even the most sensitive skins can wear it daily". The box also assures us that this product has "no chemical sunscreens".

It then goes on to tell us that the "active ingredient" is "titanium dioxide" and the other ingredients are: "water (aqua purificata) purified, octyldodecyl neopentanoate , titanium dioxide, butylene glycol, cyclomethicone, steareth-2, silica, behenoxy dimethicone, zinc oxide, tricaprylin, lecithin, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, bisaboiol, pantethine, polyglyceryl-6 ricinoleate, ispropyl titanium triisostearate, trifluoromethyl c1-4alkyl dimethicone, tricaprylyl citrate, sorbitan tristearate..." and so on for another 20 or so items.

What a lot of non-chemicals.

Gun crime in the states

According to New Scientist, "for African-American teenagers aged 15 to 19, gun-related homicide is the leading cause of death, and for all American teenagers of similar age gun-related homicide and suicide come second only to motor vehicle accidents".

How depressing is that?

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Private Lynch 'not shot and stabbed'

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Private Lynch 'not shot and stabbed': "Private Lynch 'not shot and stabbed'"

And the BBC are saying pretty much the same thing. Also their page on Tony Blair and the lies about Iraq is pretty entertaining.

This is a guy who said WMDs were such a terrible threat that the UN team couldn't be given an extension to try to find them.
It's becoming more and more obvious that there were no WMDs. Rumsfeld even admitted that they attacked Iraq not based on any new intelligence, but on a change in attitude. So, no new evidence. Hmm, so that means that your talk of WMDs at the tail end of 2002 (Powell and Rice etc etc) was lies.

Everyone in power has lied to you about this.

Ananova - US army report denies Private Jessica shooting claims: "Claims that Private Jessica Lynch was shot and stabbed as she fought with Iraqi soldiers before being taken prisoner have been debunked by a US Army report."

BBC NEWS | Technology | PlayStation turns web browser

PS2 turned web-browser?: "A PlayStation2 enthusiast has found a way to turn the games console into a web browser.
Web designer Martyn Brook has discovered that the console can be made to view almost any webpage instead of just those associated with Sony's online gaming service.
Mr Brook has created a homepage that acts like a familiar web browser and lets PlayStation owners navigate around the web. "

HSF - International Space Station

Blogs....in...spaaaace!!! HSF - International Space Station: "While he's living aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 7 NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu is writing about his experiences. His letters are listed below, beginning with the most recent addition. "

C'mon, how cool is that? The guy gets to publish and he's not even on the fscking planet.

BBC NEWS | Politics | Iraq weapons 'unlikely to be found'

BBC NEWS | Politics | Iraq weapons 'unlikely to be found': "Senior UK Government figures no longer believe weapons of mass destruction will be found in Iraq, the BBC has learned
BBC political editor Andrew Marr said 'very senior sources' in Whitehall had virtually ruled out the possibility of finding the weapons. "

Herald.com - Your Miami Everything Guide: "Dave Barry has been at The Miami Herald since 1983. He won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1988. Barry writes about various major issues relating to the international economy, the future of democracy, the social infrastructure and exploding toilets."

Go read the one about the underwater hockey players from Moldovia, "Seeking refuge in sport".

Herald.com - Your Miami Everything Guide: "The Times states that ''Floyer's sculpture is displayed by a doorway; the intention is that the viewer wonders whether it is full of air or rubbish.'' Actually, what it makes me wonder is whether the folks writing checks at the Paul Hamlyn Foundation have been smoking crack."

Google Toolbar: "The Google Toolbar increases your ability to find information from anywhere on the web and takes only seconds to install.
When the Google Toolbar is installed, it automatically appears along with the Internet Explorer toolbar. This means you can quickly and easily use Google to search from any website location, without returning to the Google home page to begin another search. "

I've just downloaded it and it seems pretty cool. I can't think of any real drawbacks to be honest....

It's a bit late, but here we have K's... STUFF WORTH WATCHING TONIGHT!!!1!

Brian de Palma's Snake Eyes, worth watching for the opening 8 minute single shot sequence (if you've ever tried to film, you know incredibly hard this must have been), and I like Nick Cage. On 5 at 9.

The West Wing, intelligent US drama, on 4 at some ridiculous hour, 11:40 or something....

Go and visit Nigel Graber's site, Audi Olympics. A fellow Lancastrian with an obsession with tennis and ex-glamour stars turned doctor ;-)

OK, so Barry White died last week. Now, I'm not a big fan of the guy, but I don't dislike him either. He seems to have been able to do something he enjoyed for quite a long time and get paid for it. He also inspired Fat Harry White of Mark and Lard fame.

However, popped-clogs did have this beautiful little feature on him, including:

Barry leaves behind eight children. Here are they:

- Deniece
- La nece
- Nina
- Shehera
- Barriana
- Barry Jr.
- Darrell
- McKevin (Would you like fries with that?)

It is to Barry's eternal credit that he managed to select three of the 10 worst names of all time.

LOL ;-)

Please God, just give me a sign, any sign, however small....

Hmm, maybe there's something to this whoe 'God' business. I'd better become a Catholic RIGHT NOW!!!!

Belfast with sand!!

More Americans and Iraqis killed in Baghdad. It's going to be like this for decades. This isn't a force of liberation but occupation.

I played a load of demos this weekend. Played SOCOM on PS2. The control system sucks (for me anyway) but everything else is brilliant. It looks and sounds and plays like CS should play. Hmmm.

Also played Breed, a Halo-esque game. You take command of a team of 4 and kill the aliens on various islands. It's pretty good. You can switch between team members and they are pretty good at giving covering fire leaving you to snipe artillery gunners.

Also played Unreal2 on the PC, was OK, but was very dark and very busy and not as good as Breed. Maybe my reflexes have gone? ;-)

Next up was Northland, a Settlers-type game which was a pleasant distraction for a coupel of hours, although at the end I was no wiser than at the beginning ;-)

Finally played MotoGP2 on the PC. Fantastic game. Looks wonderful, handling feels pretty good and the replay options are fab. Watching yourself wheelie over the finishing line in first place at 160 mph feels great.
